Heath Robinson Day

On Friday 12th March everyone at Highgate Primary took part in a special day of science, on the theme of innovation, as part of British Science Week.

Each class watched the video to ‘This Too Shall Pass’ by the pop-group Let’s Go.

Afterwards, children were challenged to design a Heath Robinson machine with toys and junk modelling materials they had brought from home.

Heath Robinson was an artist and illustrator who designed overcomplicated and ingenious contraptions to achieve a simple task.  The fun part is to make it as complex and bonkers as possible, using as many different types of simple machine as you can, such as levers, screws, planes and pulleys.

Everyone from nursery to Year 6 had a fantastic time being crazily inventive, as you can see from this photo of Year 2!
