Music

Royal Albert Hall

Highgate Primary is a school that celebrates music and performance. We have a singing assembly each week and two choirs led weekly by our Leader of Music and Performing Arts. Our choirs were recently awarded the Iris Macer Shield at the North London Music Festival where they both achieved first place and distinctions in their separate categories. The choirs regularly perform at school events and concerts as well as participating in events such as the Young Voices concert at the O2 arena, the Fair in the Square and this summer and the Barnardo‘s Charity event at the Royal Albert Hall.

All children can join the Kaos Signing Choir for Deaf & Hearing Children, which is the only integrated deaf and hearing children’s choir in the UK.  It regularly impresses audiences with performances of original songs written by, or especially for, the group.

The children at school have many opportunities to learn and play musical instruments. All children in Year 2 learn the recorder and children in Year 4 learn either the guitar or violin. Children in Key Stage 2 children can have private lessons within the school day through Haringey’s Music Service.

We regularly invite professional musicians to play in school. Recent visitors to Highgate Primary have included The Camarilla Woodwind Ensemble, English Pocket Opera and MOBO award winner, Akala.

Hilla Moshenson leads music throughout the school, but is well supported by a very musical staff that not only delivers music lessons but also perform in assemblies and at school community events.
